The Pattern
A company successfully automates a major data-entry bottleneck in sales operations. Two weeks later, the implementation team is completely overwhelmed and screaming that the business is broken. Leadership views the automation project as a failure.
What We Observe
Any system is gated by its narrowest constraint. When you widen that constraint, the flow of work accelerates until it hits the next narrowest point.
In our anonymized historical cases, increasing sales velocity by 20% through friction removal almost always triggered a crisis in fulfillment 30 days later.
Why It Matters
If leadership does not anticipate the shifting bottleneck, they will misdiagnose success as failure. They will roll back the improvement to relieve the pressure on the new bottleneck, retreating to the comfort of the original, slower system.

When planning an intervention, ask: If this works perfectly, who gets crushed next Tuesday?
What to Watch
Watch for the secondary scream. When you fix the front of the house, the back of the house will complain. That complaint is the signal of your success.
A new bottleneck is not a failure of the intervention. It is the reward for solving the previous one.
